Child and Women Health

Children need proper care from their inception to ensure a healthy childhood and subsequently healthy adulthood. Sarthak has been working to ensure that children grow at a normal pace. They do not suffer from mal-nutrition as it badly affects the growth of children. It collaborates with Anganwadi Centres and ANMs to ensure that supplementary food reaches to children, pregnant and lactating women. The malnourished children are given proper care and badly malnourished children are sent to the treatment centres.

The adolescent girls are given special attention, especially during the menstruation period. Parents, siblings and others in the family and the community are given awareness on this natural process of life in adolescent girls. Women groups are formed and trained for common health issues, monitoring government health and education services, income generating activities. Sarthak organises training of village health volunteers and organizes health camps for early detection and treatment of the diseases and referral services.

Livelihood Promotion and Natural Resource Management

Sustainable livelihood is very important for tribal families for survival. Once basic family requirements are met, parents give more attention to children and their health care and education. Thus, sustainable livelihood is a must for child development. Sarthak ensures that tribal families get work in the lean period through Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act. It brings awareness among people about its provisions so that they take benefit of it. They train community members and village institutes to ensure it is implemented with true spirit. Youth are trained to monitor the implementation of the work. This is precisely done because the earning improves the health of children and women directly.
