WCD, Govt. of Chhattisgarh Nava Jatan (2012)

Sarthak Jan Vikas Sansthan signed a contract with the Commissioner, Department of women and Child development, Government of Chhattisgarh on May 7, 2012 for working against prevalent malnutrition in villages. As per the agreement, the programme started on June 1, 2012 for six months. The programme envisaged a well planned and time bound intervention to combat malnutrition in villages. Sarthak implemented Nava Jatan programme in 06 villages of 03 Panchayat of Lundra block of Surguja district.

The task of the programme was to make children free from malnutrition in villages. Sarthak planned out well for its implementation with clear strategies:

  1. Parents of mal-nutrient children were trained community wise at village level at least one day a month.
  2. House to house systematic guidance provided to parents of mal-nutrient children.
  3. Mal-nutrient children’s intake of medicines, syrups, vitamins was closely monitored.
  4. Provided prescribed nutritious food to mal-nutrient children.
  5. Ensured medical test of mal-nutrient children every week and availed medical facilities for children who were seriously mal-nutrient under Mukhya Mantri Poshan Punarvas programm.e
  6. Monitored the efforts made by Anganwadi Centres to bring children out from the state of mal-nutrition under MukhyaMantri Bal Sandarbh Yojana. Supplementary food was provided to pregnant women and children between 6 months to 03 years. Children between 3 to 6 years of age were provided food at Anganwadi centres.
  7. Encouraged local body elected representatives of Panchayats to seek cooperation for various training programmes.
  8. Monitored the weight of malnourished children
